The Grafik Museum

After many years of discussions and many approaches by publishers, David Bromley has finally collaborated with Earl Carter and 3 Deep Design to create A Picture Book First and Foremost. Capturing the two distinct and unique languages of Bromley’s work; the female portrait and the children’s series, these narratives have been supported with a rare glimpse into the environments and worlds that Bromley inhabits.

Children’s – Volume 1 and Nudes – Volume 2 are an exploration of David’s highly coveted subjects and World’s, Volume 3 has been beautifully shot by Earl Carter and is the link between Children’s, Nudes and the objects David Bromley collects. It is a private, yet not too invasive look at Bromley’s environments, family and friends who have certainly shaped and influenced his collections.

A dedicated website has been created to document the projects, the conversations that lead to the book and document some of the captivating images of the books. Do have a look as it is a very inspiring site. The Book is available for purchase at A Day On Earth in Armadale (Victoria) and will shortly be distributed through Thames Hudson to selected stockists.

Some words on David Bromley as an artist:

David Bromley is amongst the most energetic painters currently working in Australia. In his art he has managed to combine a distinctive Pop sensibility - a love of found images, photographic sources and mass media references - with an inventive relish for the effects of paint. His work divides into two distinct but related strands: images of childhood (adapted from the world of 1950s’ book illustrations) and images of the female nude. Displaying an extraordinary artistic energy he has experimented with a wide variety of different media - printmaking, ceramic, sculpture and, recently, film. He is currently working on designs for a collection of utility furniture. Though born in Sheffield, England, in 1960, Bromley moved to Australia at the age of four and has lived there ever since. As an artist he is self-taught. He has had over thirty solo exhibitions across Australia, Europe, the USA and Asia. His work is held in corporate, private and public collections in both hemispheres. He is listed as one of the ‘50 Most Collectible Artists in Australia’ by Australian Art Collector Magazine.
